Our Services

Ward Learning Solutions provides information, support, and guidance to parents as they navigate their child’s education. Learn more about our testing services below.

Psycho-educational Evaluations

Including but not limited to cognitive, basic psychological processing, academic, behavior, social-emotional, and adaptive evaluations, depending on the presenting problem identified by the parent. These diagnostic tests are interpreted and incorporated in a complete assessment report to assist parents in identifying the interventions needed to support their child.  It is often useful to discuss the findings with those working with the child. The purpose is to help drive interventions, accommodations and service delivery planning. It can include 12-20 hours of assessment and report writing.

College Disability Evaluations

Do you have a child who is preparing for college, or are you an adult wanting to go back to school? Do you or your child have or suspect a learning disability? Colleges have disabilities services and are required to offer accommodations such as extra time, a note-taker, free tutoring, or access to audio text. These can make a huge difference and help you maximize your college education. However, they require a recent evaluation and diagnosis. College Disability Evaluations can provide evidence of a disability and recommendations to support you or your child in your studies.

Private School Accommodation Assessment

Does your child need to take an entrance exam as part of your application to a private school? Does your child have or suspect a learning disability.  An ISEE and a HSPT will allow your child accommodations if you are able to provide evidence of a disability. Accommodations can include extended test time, individual testing, and test directions read aloud, allowing your child to do their best. An up-to-date (within the past three years) psycho-educational evaluation is required when you apply. You can also provide this assessment as evidence of your child’s academic and cognitive functioning, as entrance exams are only a snapshot of your child’s actual abilities.  It can help make sure your child gets the best possible placement in a school.

School Neuro-psychological Evaluations

These evaluations provide the same assessment techniques as the psycho-educational evaluations but dive deeper into the neuropsychological processes of the brain. Based on the referral question, this can include using specific tests that measure multiple types of attention, memory, executive functions, and sensory-motor functioning. A School Neuro-psychological Evaluation is often used when the previous testing has failed to find the cause of a child’s learning or behavioral difficulty. It is used in instances when a child has a known neurological condition such as a traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and brain tumors. It can include 20-30 hours of assessment and report writing.

Functional Behavior Assessment

Some students struggle to learn in school because of behavioral challenges. A Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) is a process used to figure out what’s causing challenging behavior. Data is collected and analyzed to determine antecedents for the behavior, how often the behavior is occurring, the intensity of the behavior, and the consequences that are maintaining the behavior. An FBA leads to recommendations for interventions to reduce the problem behavior. Parents receive a formal assessment report stating the findings, which are discussed with the parent and, if requested, the professionals who work with the child.

Kindergarten Readiness

A Kindergarten Readiness Assessment is a developmentally appropriate assessment designed to measure school readiness of incoming kindergartners. This evaluation can help you identify where your child is at and how you can help them be successful during their first year of elementary school.  It can provide recommendations for what to work on during the school year or during summer prior to entrance into kindergarten.
